China's Zijin Mining to buy Canada's Nevsun for about $1.8 billion after Lundin rejected

"Zijin Mining, which specializes in gold, copper and zinc, will offer $6.00 per share in cash for Nevsun, the companies said, representing a premium of about 21 per cent to Nevsun’s close in Toronto on Tuesday.

Lundin took its all-cash offer of $4.75 per share directly to Nevsun shareholders on July 26, after its five previous proposals were rejected by the company.  After rejecting Lundin’s offer, Nevsun said in August it had entered into confidentiality agreements with 18 interested parties, and had received four proposals from mining and smelting companies, indicating their willingness to purchase up to a 19.9 per cent stake in Nevsun.."​

Northern Star buys 300 000 oz/y Alaska gold mine

"Gold miner Northern Star Resources will spend $260-million to acquire the 4.1-million-ounce Pogo underground gold mine, in Alaska.  The ASX-listed company on Thursday told shareholders that the acquisition will be funded from existing cash and a fully underwritten A$175-million placement to institutional investors."​

John Paulson urges underperforming Canadian miner Detour Gold to seek a buyer

"Paulson & Co., whose US$9 billion in assets includes a 5.4 per cent stake in Detour, wants the board to explore all strategic alternatives, including a sale. Those sentiments were echoed by other shareholders, including Franklin Templeton, Mackenzie Investments, Tocqueville Asset Management and VanEck."​

South32 is buying Vancouver's Arizona Mining for $1.3 billion, a 50% premium

"Perth-based South32 — spun out of BHP Billiton Ltd. in 2015 — will pay $6.20 a share for the 83 per cent of the company that it doesn’t already own, according to a filling Monday. Arizona directors unanimously recommended the deal that’s priced at a 50 per cent premium to Friday’s close."

Cobalt 27 announces first-ever streaming deal for battery metals

"Toronto-based Cobalt 27 Capital Corp. on Tuesday announced it will pay $145 million for the right to the cobalt and nickel from the Ramu mine in Papua New Guinea, in what marks the first streaming deal of its kind in the battery metals space."

"Cobalt has given the Voisey’s Bay mine — one of the world’s largest nickel deposits — in Newfoundland and Labrador a new lease on life this week in yet another sign of the growing influence that the electric vehicle industry already exerts on global supply chains.  Brazilian giant Vale SA on Monday announced it will sell most of the mine’s future cobalt production for US$690 million to finance a long-delayed $1.7-billion expansion, which will add an underground component to the mine and extend its life by 15 years."
